Age at First Marriage in Malawi: a Bayesian multilevel analysis using a discrete-time model
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a hierarchical discrete-time survival model for the analysis of data on timing of marriage. The data were collected as part of the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices in Health (MKAPH) survey for Malawi held in 1996. The model assesses the determinants of transition to marriage and accounts for family and community random effects with cross-level correlation structure. A nonparametric technique is used to dynamically model the baseline discrete hazard. The model produces improved estimates of fixed effects and the associated standard errors, in addition to providing intracluster and intercluster correlations at the levels of the hierarchy. A full Bayesian approach is employed using Markov Chain Monte Carlo for posterior computation.

Marriage behavior response to prime-age adult mortality: evidence from Malawi.
This article examines the effect of AIDS-related mortality of the prime-age adult population on marriage behavior among women in Malawi. A rise in prime-age adult mortality increases risks associated with the search for a marriage partner in the marriage market. A possible behavioral change in the marriage market in response to an increase in prime-age adult mortality is to marry earlier to avo...
متن کاملThe Analysis of Bayesian Probit Regression of Binary and Polychotomous Response Data
The goal of this study is to introduce a statistical method regarding the analysis of specific latent data for regression analysis of the discrete data and to build a relation between a probit regression model (related to the discrete response) and normal linear regression model (related to the latent data of continuous response). This method provides precise inferences on binary and multinomia...

This paper aims to investigate the main socioeconomic determinants of female age at first marriage in Chuadanga dis trict, Bangladesh, over the year 2005, and attempts to find some explanations for the differences in the age at marriage among socio economic characteristics. The findings of the multiple classification analysis (MCA) suggest that among all the variables analyzed in...

Background & Aim: Fertility is the most important factors affecting population fluctuations. Reproductive behaviors of a community can be studied through different methods. One of the methods is the evaluation of the interval between marriage and the birth of the first child. The aim of this study was to investigate the factors influencing the interval between marriage and first birth using the...
